Howie Liao

I’m a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Alberta with a strong interest in mechanical design, piping systems, and solving practical problems through thoughtful design and analysis.

My professional experience at Canadian Innovative Materials has given me the opportunity to contribute to real industrial projects through 3D modelling, engineering drawings, design reviews, BOM development, FEA, site support, and QA/QC documentation. I’ve worked on projects involving wear components, piping, and static equipment. Including projects for CNRL, Suncor, Imperial Oil, and applications for other clients.

I particularly enjoy taking an engineering problem from an initial concept or set of requirements and developing it into a practical, well documented design. My technical background includes AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Plant 3D, MicroStation, Revit, and ANSYS FEA. I am experienced with P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and piping and wear materials, complemented by experience with CFD and multidisciplinary design projects.

This portfolio is a collection of projects that demonstrate how I approach design, 3D modelling, and technical projects. Feel free to explore the projects to see my work in more detail.
